COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR MITTIE A. SMITH
Command Sergeant Major
Smith was born in Pittsview, Alabama. She graduated from Chavala High School
in May 1981 as Salutatorian with a Scholarship in academics. She joined the US Army in November 1981. She completed
Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, SC
as an Administrative Specialist.
CSM Smith’s military education includes: Primary
Leadership Course, Instructors Training Course (Honor Graduate), NBC Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Basic Noncommissioned
Officer Course (Honor Graduate), Drill Sergeant School (Distinguished Honor Graduate & Leadership Award), Master Fitness
Trainers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course (Leadership Award), First Sergeants Course (Commandant’s List),
Cadre Training Course, Consideration of Others Training, Graduate of the US Army Sergeants Major Academy, Command Sergeant
Major Course, Garrison Sergeant Major Course and the Senior Enlisted Equal Opportunity Course. She holds a Bachelor
of Science degree in Business and Management from the University of Maryland and a Masters Degree in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University, St.
Louis, MO.
CSM Smith has held numerous leadership positions, including
Squad Leader, Personnel Management NCOIC, Primary Leadership Development Course Instructor, Senior Drill Sergeant, Platoon
Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, Chief/Adjutant of the Personnel and Administration Division, PAC Supervisor, Chief, Administrative
Services Division, Detachment Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Garrison Command Sergeant Major. She is currently the Commandant,
Noncommissioned Officer Academy, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart,
Georgia.
Her assignments include duty with Military Intelligence
Division, SHAPE, Belgium; 1st Signal Battalion, Kaiserslautern, Germany; NCO Academy, 3-26th Infantry
Battalion, and US Army Transition Point, Fort Dix, NJ; US Army Criminal Investigation Command, Yongsan, Korea; 1-26th
and 3-13th Infantry Regiments, and Training Center Command, Fort Jackson, SC; Third US Army, Fort McPherson, GA;
First US Army, Fort Gillem, GA; US Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX; Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA.
CSM Smith’s awards and decorations include:
Meritorious Service Medal (5th OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2d OLC), Army Achievement
Medal (5th OLC), Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon (4), Good Conduct Medal (7th), National
Defense Ribbon (2), Overseas Service Ribbon (3), and the Drill Sergeant Badge.
